Currency Options Trading – 8th April 2009

This week has proved to be particularly difficult so far in trading both the currency options market as well as the spot market, due partly to the lack of fundamental news on the economic calendar, and coupled with the long weekend ahead, with many traders closing positions early, and the markets in general trading on relatively thin volumes. This has created an indecisive market where small items of news create unexpected volatility, and significant news items are having little impact due to the lack of liquidity. With the earnings season starting in the US stock markets next week, this could be a decisive for the US dollar in the next period, and should the news be worse than expected then this could trigger a flight to the dollar away from stocks and strengthen the dollar accordingly.
